What are the common symptoms associated with Allergies?
The symptoms associated with allergies fall into a number of common groups, dependent on the type of allergy that is at play. Some of the common allergies and their key symptoms are listed below: Asthma - Probably the biggest allergy in the western world characterized by difficulty in breathing, often associated with a whistling noise (wheezing). Many asthma sufferers complain of a tightening in the chest, episodes of coughing and shortness of breath. Rhinitis - These are a group of allergic reactions that are linked to the eyes, nose and throat. Hayfever would be classified as seasonal rhinitis, and would result in symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing, itchy throat, blocked sinuses and others associated with the facial organs. There is a non allergenic form of rhinitis, which results in very similar symptoms to the allergenic form. Eczema - Refers to a lesion of the skin and is used to describe any condition that appears as a red, blistering, scaly, flaky and itchy rash on the surface of the skin. Many children have eczema from a young age, but it often clears up as they get older. Associated with eczema are a group of allergic reactions called atopic dermatitis. These flare ups that look very similar to eczema can be triggered by an almost limitless number of substances. Contact Dermatitis - Symptoms are identical to that associated with Eczema but the cause is very different. Contact dermatitis is a result of a substance touching the skin, penetrating the surface and triggering an immune response in the upper most layers of skin. Triggers can include certain household chemicals, latex, cosmetics. What are the treatments for allergies? Can't find what you're looking for? Try a search below!
